Spring is the perfect time to clean things up, the perfect way to prepare for warmer days. But what is the best way to sanitize your space in an ecological and responsible way? Discover four of our essential oils that will help you naturally clean your home from top to bottom.

Essential oils: a natural alternative to chemical household products

Chemical cleaners can have negative effects on your family’s health. Danger symbols on the packaging of household products generally means they contain toxic substances.

Inhalation of chemicals can affect the respiratory tract, but chemical household products can also irritate the skin. A Norwegian study shown that after several decades, using chemical household products every day can significantly affect lung capacity. In addition, some air fresheners contain formaldehyde, a substance known to cause cancer when exposed to it in high doses.

There are natural and simple alternatives to avoid the toxic substances contained in household products. Essential oils are the best way to clean the air inside your house. Made from ultra-concentrated plant extracts, they retain their unique fragrance and antimicrobial properties. An ally of choice when it comes to cleaning the air in your home.

Purify with our true lavender essential oil

Considered the foundation of aromatherapy, lavender is native to the mountains of Provence. Popular for decades, it is a must-have for purifying homes.

On top of its soothing and calming properties, our true lavender Essencia essential oil can also be used as an insecticide. This versatile product will help you chase away unwanted guests and can even prevent infections.

In the diffuser

Adding 6 to 10 drops in a diffuser are enough to sanitize and perfume the air of your home within 15 minutes. We always suggest using a diffuser whose temperature does not alter the properties of essential oils (doesn’t exceed 40ºC).

In the fridge or dresser

To scent your clothes, simply add a few drops of our true lavender oil onto a piece of fabric then place it in your wardrobe. This technique is also a great way to remove moths. To avoid bad smells in your fridge, mix a drop of true lavender and lemon essential oils with baking soda. Place it in your fridge and you’re all set!

Lemon aromatherapy

When used in a diffuser, our lemon essential oil is an atmospheric antiseptic that leaves a  refreshing and uplifting smell. This essential oil helps to neutralize microbes thanks to its antibacterial and antiviral properties on top of being inexpensive.

The perfect oil to use in a diffuser

As with our true lavender essential oil, our lemon essential oil can also be used in a diffuser. To combine the benefits of both oils, feel free to mix them together to create a summery and relaxing atmosphere!

DIY household products

Making your own household products is the best way to avoid being in contact with toxic substances as well as reducing the use of plastic bottles. To make your own cleaner at home, use this recipe: mix 10 drops of lemon essential oil with half a cup of warm water and half a cup of white vinegar. This recipe makes for the perfect cleaning and antibacterial product for all surfaces of the house.

Sanitize with tea tree

Our Essencia tea tree essential oil helps to sanitize the house and get rid of unwanted odours with its energizing fragrance. Particularly helpful for soothing skin infections, this oil has antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties that can also help keep mites at bay. Tea tree essential oil is also very effective when it comes to cleaning different surfaces and fabrics. Simply add 5 to 10 drops to your liquid laundry soap.

Tea tree essential oil-based cleaners

To sanitize your carpet, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with two tablespoons of baking soda. Sprinkle the mixture on the carpet to repel mites, leave on for a few minutes and then vacuum.

The dirt embedded in bathroom tile joints can be stubborn. To get rid of it, pour a few drops of tea tree essential oil on an old toothbrush and scrub well.

To sanitize your couches, curtains and beds, mix three drops of tea tree essential oil with a cup of white vinegar and a cup of water, then spray on the mixtures on the fabric you wish to clean.

Clean with our Narrow-leaf eucalyptus essential oil

Native to Australia, eucalyptus is known all over the world and its essential oil works wonders to help relieve respiratory infections. Narrow-leaf eucalyptus essential oil has deodorizing and sanitizing properties that help with colds, sinusitis and asthma and there are so many ways to take advantage of its virtues.

Bathroom and floor cleaning

After vacuuming, mix three drops of eucalyptus essential oil with a tablespoon of black soap in a bucket of hot water to clean the floors. For the bathroom, add three drops of narrow-leaf eucalyptus essential oil to your usual natural cleanser, this will help you disinfect the sink, bathtub, shower and even the toilet!

Plan ahead for a successful spring clean-up

Spring cleaning can be daunting! Since a lot needs to be done, start by making a list.

Room by room, write down all the things that need to be dusted, washed, stored or discarded. Then, make sure you’re well equipped: bucket, garbage bag, towels, etc. At this stage you can prepare your own household products using the recipes listed above and finally start cleaning up in a logical way that makes sense for you. Make sure to do so gradually in order to conserve your energy!
